1950 Fleetline
This car arrived in our shop in basically stock condition. The owner has owned it for nearly 40 years and had worked on it off and on for nearly as long. Finally, he decided to have it made into the car of his dreams.
Out came the original straight six. In went a 355 crate engine, along with a Turbo 400 automatic transmission with stall converter, Mustang II suspension (with a few modifications to the engine compartment), Flaming River steering column, front disc brakes and power steering. To harness that added horsepower a Moser 12 Bolt Posi-Track rear end was installed.
To keep things cool in the passenger compartment we added a Vintage Aire air conditioning system. The rest of the interior was completely restored, including cloth seats with vinyl trim and carpet. We also installed a new audio system and Dakota Digital dash display.
The owner wanted to streamline the car a bit, by removing the rear bumper. So we modified the body in back to accommodate this. In addition we reduced the clearance between the front bumper and the body of the car. The gravel guards and trim that run over the rear fenders were also removed. Late in the restoration process, the owner decided he wanted to add side pipes. This was a great idea! And the finished result…well, judge for yourself. |
